I'm a 22 year-old black guy from America of Nigerian and Swedish descent, and I'm currently teaching English to elementary school kids in rural Taiwan for a year.

These are some of my thoughts and stories.

And, no, I do not look like Lebron James.

+ Thankful

I went to a concert today in Taipei for one of my favorite Japanese artists  from my teenage years (Amuro Namie, in case anyone knows her). It was amazing, and I feel so blessed to have had an opportunity to come out here and live out some of my childhood dreams. Another moment that gave me pause recently was when I had a chance to stand on “The Peak” in Hong Kong 3 weeks ago and looked down on the city from the same vantage point I’d seen it in a geographic encyclopedia as a child. From the age of 8, I began reading about places all around the world, their peoples and cultures, and found it all so fascinating. That picture of Hong Kong in particular, though, stuck with me for whatever reason through all these years. Standing there with some of my friends was a surprisingly emotional moment that almost moved me to tears. Despite all of the difficulties I have experienced here, I’m so thankful to have had this opportunity. Many people never get a chance to go abroad, and moments like the concert and my time at “The Peak” in HK serve as salient reminders to me of just how blessed I am.

I’m also very thankful for all of the support I have found here on Tumblr even in some of my more trying times. So I also wanted to stop for a second and thank all of you, as it really does mean a lot to me. :)

Best,
